Book Andrew
Andrew Scott grew up on the back streets of Belfast during the ‘Troubles’ in Northern Ireland.
At 4 years old he survived the Abercorn atrocity, when Irish terrorists set off a bomb in a packed city-centre restaurant. Andrew endured 5 years of recovery both physically and mentally.
Later his brother was the victim of a car bomb attack, leaving him wheelchair bound for life, and his father was killed on a train track in unknown circumstances.
At 18 Andrew left Ireland to start a new life in London, vowing to turn his childhood trauma into a purpose to live life at the highest level, and help others do the same.
Despite early set-backs as an ‘outsider’ with no qualifications or money, Andrew’s determination to succeed finally paid off, and he quickly moved up the corporate ladder.
In 1998 he was parachuted into a distressed manufacturing business where he completed a turn-a-round. The business grew from £1m to £12m annual revenue in 4 years, and was sold to U.S. Fortune 500 giant, Masco, in an 8-figure deal.
Along the road there have been some great business successes and some failures too – in 2004 Andrew lost it all, ending up in a small flat with £116,000 in credit card debt and an old car with 250,000 miles on the clock.
Refusing to give up, Andrew soon bounced back, launching a business and growth consultancy, Purplex, which 20 years later is a global marketing agency and part of Andrew’s Ascot Group, employing nearly 100 people.
Today Andrew Scott is a multi-millionaire who has launched, acquired or sold 10+ companies whilst building a multi-million property portfolio.
He is an Angel Investor with Bristol Private Equity, and a regular keynote speaker and business advisor on strategy, growth and marketing.
Andrew was awarded ‘Director of the Year’ for CSR by the Institute of Directors, has held numerous non-executive board and committee positions, and is actively involved in charitable and community work.
Andrew’s profile grew when he founded one of Britain’s leading media and events companies, Business Leader Magazine, connecting over 100,000 entrepreneurs. In 2023 he sold the business to Richard Harpin, the tycoon who built and sold Homeserve PLC for £4.1 billion.
When Andrew Scott sat on the beach in his battered old BMW in 2004, with a collapsed business and deep in debt, he never would have imaged that 20 years later that car would come back into his life and inspire other entrepreneurs all over the world. Discover the remarkable story of one entrepreneur, a dilapidated car with 335,000 miles on the clock and a ‘journey to success’
